Newnan Dentistry is offering cash for Halloween candy.  November 3rd through 5th, from 3 P.M. to 5:30 P.M., children can bring their extra candy to 23 Old Atlanta Hwy, Suite 200, in Newnan.  Dr. Rima Patel and her team will pay $1.00 per pound of candy at up to three pounds of candy per child.

Cavities are a widespread, yet preventable, issue.  When we eat or drink sugary substances, the bacteria in our mouths change it into acid that eats away at tooth enamel, leaving small holes that are vulnerable to decay.  Overconsumption of sugar, such as Halloween candy, increases the likelihood of developing cavities.

While cutting out candy completely may not be a bandwagon everyone is willing to jump on, cutting back on the amount of candy each child consumes is a more agreeable goal.  By reducing the amount of sugar intake per child, Newnan Dentistry hopes to decrease the number of cavities in the local community.

The candy that is collected will be donated to Operation Christmas Child, where it will be distributed to children overseas, who rarely get to enjoy sugary treats.  This provides an opportunity for the local community and a local business to work together for a healthier community and to support a good cause.

Dr. Patel and her team emphasize preventive care and teaching good oral health habits.  They want to remind adults and children to brush and floss twice a day, and after sugar consumption.
